Steps

  1. 1Visit the branch closest to you and ask for an account opening form.
  2. 2Fill in both parts of the form. Form 1 covers your name, address and signature; Form 2 is only for applicants without a PAN card.
  3. 3Attach your KYC documents and check that the details match the form exactly.
  4. 4Make the initial deposit of Rs. 1,000.
  5. 5Once the bank completes verification you receive a passbook and cheque book free of charge.

What to bring

  • Proof of identity — passport, driving licence, proof of possession of Aadhaar, Voter’s ID, NREGA job card or an NPR letter
  • Proof of address — the same document if it carries your current address, otherwise a separate one
  • PAN card, or Form 60 if you do not hold a PAN
  • Recent passport-size photographs
